Our resident Astrology goddess Sandy explains Rising Signs and what it means for you.
Did you know that in astrology, there is more to you than your zodiac sign? The Sun was in the sign you call your zodiac sign, but where were all the other planets? Guess what? The Sun isn't the main star of the show. And so, the plot thickens…
It is best to start with your Rising Sign, aka Ascendant. Which is exactly that, it describes our lifetime ascension. It has a huge role in our persona. It is what we dream to be in this life but believe to be out of our grasp. When it is actually meant for us. We must work for it to truly appreciate it.
We figure out this extra bit to your natal chart using your birthtime. The zodiac belt makes a full rotation of the earth every day, going up and over from east to west. The moment you were born determines this important piece of information in your chart. That sign changes every 2 hours, so it is important to be as specific as possible.
Every Rising sign comes with its rewards and its obstacles, but you must RISE ABOVE the challenges it presents to reap the rewards.
You might even find you’re envious of people who are born with their Sun in the same sign as your Rising. Or hold judgement because of the struggles you face related to that sign subconsciously.
The people around you will identify you with your Rising sign, whereas you may connect more with your sun sign, because it is so natural.
Let me share with you, just a tidbit of each Ascendant. Which one are you?
Aries Rising long for the confidence they see in people who were born in the sign of Aries. They need to learn to go after what they want, instead of waiting for it to come to them. Mars tells us what they are most passionate about and how it influences their personality.
Taurus in a chart causes a person to be very pigheaded in the area that it falls in. When it is someone's rising sign, other people are very aware of it, where they may not. A couple lessons for this Rising is to learn when to give and when to take. Life is about change.
Curiosity killed the cat when it comes to Gemini Rising. They live for experiences through travel, life and other people. They are so thirsty to learn new things, that they don’t allow the time to fully experience the pleasure they seek.
Cancer Rising guards their heart from emotion. It must be a hard to do when you are ruled by the Moon. Their mission is to find creative ways to use their sensitivities, in order to not feel overwhelmed by them. Understanding the rhythms of the moon should be mandatory!
From an early age Leo Rising are uncomfortable in social settings, but they are meant to be heard! Through life, they will gain the courage to stand up and voice what they are supposed to share with the world. The Sun shines on where they are supposed to be seen.
Because Virgo is a sign of order and cleanliness. A person with their Rising in Virgo can make this their greatest challenge. Either spending their life trying to get it in order, or by trying to let go of the control to live a less structured lifestyle.
Libra Rising has a difficult challenge. They must come to the conclusion that they would rather live alone than be in a relationship that isn’t working for them. We’ll just skip the shopping addiction and go right to the heart of the matter.

I’ll tell you a story about my Pisces Rising!
I am 50 and only just starting to grasp this is who I am.
I have always wanted to be a psychic and have been envious of those who are. It all started when I had my first tarot reading in high school, I can remember it so clearly. I was in awe about the whole experience, the reader, the music, I can still see her room. I also can go back as far as high school where I remember my first experience with my intuition, another very solid memory.
One of the complexities of this sign is being lost in a dream world, causing trouble focusing on the matters at hand. Whatever was going on in my head was more entertaining than what was going on in my outer world.
One of my biggest lessons from my Rising sign was to learn to be present, to really work on my intuition and separate it from my ego. My mind was always too loud to hear my intuition talking to me or I was filling it with music, such a Pisces thing to do. 5 or 6 years ago, I started working on clearing the clutter in my head. Not only did that hard work connect me directly to my higher self, but it also gave me the ability to be connected to other people when engaging in conversations. I love to sit in silence now, who knew?
I always wanted to be creative, write, draw, paint, play guitar, but would put myself down.
Understanding my Pisces Rising, also taught me that I am a sensitive being and an empath. It was one of my important lessons to being a better parent for my children, I learned not to hold onto things, like arguments.
Pisces Rising stuff their emotions, with food, booze, drugs. It would be wrong of me not to admit that I have had some addictions in my life. While judging others for being the same way. Part of the Pisces Rising is learning to have compassion for others. Remember that motto, what annoys you in others is where you need to do the work for yourself??
With the Rising sign, also comes physical features. Pisces is blessed with the curls and the curves, Pisces Rising struggles with this, always wanting to straighten their hair and thinking they need to lose weight. The lesson here was to accept myself for the beauty I am.
Pisces Rising tends to move gracefully and appear mystical. I laugh at that! But I saw myself in a video once and thought I was someone else. I glided through the frame so fluidly; I was almost ghost-like. “Who is that?” I said.
Playing dress up as a child and even into adulthood, can be a hint to what someone's Rising sign is. I’ve enjoyed dressing up as an astronaut, a gypsy and a psychic. Look at me now, I’m not playing pretend anymore.
Do any of these Rising Signs resonate with you?
